Long Eaton Ground Floor Tiling

28th January 2022

At Andrew Hindes Interiors we are experts in contemporary and Victorian tiling. Consequently, it was no surprise that our knowledgeable team was approached to undertake a contemporary tiling project in Long Eaton. The project consisted of tiling the ground floor focusing on the kitchen, dining, and lounge area.

Whilst enjoyable, the project did pose a challenge. The ground floor consisted of multiple different substrates that had to be addressed. The first section of flooring was existing timber flooring, which we over boarded with cement tile backer boards.

The second section consisted of a new concrete screed with underfloor heating, in which we laid some additional self-leveling compound. The hallway section also featured existing concrete which we laid with additional self-leveling compounds.

To prepare for the next phase of tiling we laid a Norcross perm-layer anti-fracture membrane across the entire floor. We then began tiling the main kitchen, dining, and lounge area with a contemporary wood effect tile. These were laid on the diagonal with a straight border. Whilst laying the tile we created three sections and incorporated expansion joints. In the hallway, our client wanted a more traditional look and feel and opted for Victorian floor tiles.

This was a great project to work on and allowed us to work on contemporary and Victorian tiles as well as with underfloor heating. Our client was also thrilled with the end result and we hope their feet stay nice and toasty!
