Japanese Inspired Wetroom Ilkeston

6th February 2026

This Japanese-inspired wet room in Ilkeston was a complete transformation, designed to create a calm, minimal space with a strong focus on clean lines, natural materials, and functionality.

The room was stripped back and fully rebuilt, allowing for new plumbing and electrics to be installed throughout. A full wet room system was formed using a Schluter wet room tray and waterproofing system, including tanking throughout the shower area, ensuring a completely watertight and long-lasting installation.

The shower area was designed as an open, walk-in space with a frameless glass screen, keeping the room feeling open and uncluttered. Subtle integrated storage was built into the wall, maintaining the clean aesthetic while still being practical for everyday use.

Large terrazzo-effect tiles were used across the floor, bringing texture and character, while the walls were finished in soft grey brick-style tiles laid horizontally to emphasise the width of the space. The upper walls were kept simple and neutral, helping to balance the overall look and keep the room feeling light.

A wall-hung Toto toilet was installed, adding a high-end, modern touch while keeping the floor area clear and easy to maintain. The vanity unit introduces warm natural tones, paired with a countertop basin and matt black brassware to contrast against the softer finishes.

Additional details such as the sliding barn-style door, soft LED-lit mirror, and carefully chosen accessories all contribute to the overall feel — clean, functional, and understated.

The end result is a well-balanced wet room that blends Japanese-inspired simplicity with modern materials and high-performance installation methods, creating a space that feels both relaxing and practical for everyday use.
